Put a towel over the valve train to keep debris out.Unbolt valve cover (11x10mm bolts) in following pattern.Fold wires over the top and tuck under the strut tower bar.Use screwdriver to work compression fit zip ties out of the valve cover.This makes it easier to set the crank to top dead center (TDC) later.Remove spark plugs and set aside (or toss and replace). ![]() Remove coil packs (4x10mm bolts) and plug wires, set aside.Pump the jack one or two more times to get some more support on the engine.Pull motor mount out through the top of engine compartment.Remove nuts attaching motor mount to engine (3x17mm nuts).Remove bolts attaching motor mount to car (2x14mm bolts).Remove side motor mount support bar (14mm nut, 14mm bolt).Put a second jack with piece of wood under oil pan to support engine.Finger tighten the crank bolt and set breaker bar aside.Crank the motor for one second and check crank bolt, should be loose now.Wedge breaker bar into the ground facing towards front of car.Put 21mm socket and breaker bar on crank bolt.Let it drain while you're doing the rest of the work.Put pan/bucket under panel, unscrew the drain plug.Jack up the car, put it on a jack stand, remove wheel.Break loose lug nuts, passenger front wheel.Box wrenches of the same sizes (ratcheting wrenches will help big time).Thermostat with gasket (optional): KL01-15-171A-9U.Valve Cover Gasket (optional): FSD7-10-235.Alternator/Water Pump Belt: FS59-18-381C.Thermostat with gasket (optional): Gates (34014).Valve Cover Gasket (optional): FEL-PRO (VS50574R).Alternator/Water Pump Belt: Gates (K040360).Power Steering/AC Belt: Gates (K050459).Timing Belt Component Kit: Gates (TCK228).Parts (for 3rd gen Protege with 2.0L engine, MSP included) Third party parts will be much cheaper than OEM, and ran me about $225 shipped for everything. The part numbers listed for the belts and thermostat might be different for your vehicle, and in these lists refer to the MSP. MSP rear subframe and rear sway bar (the subframe is not needed to mount the RSB but the mounting points are a bit different from the P5 which is why most owners who upgrade to the RSB complain of the clunk)ġ5.Posting this because most of the threads that exist now are missing pieces. ![]() Sedan headlights (will require some re-wiring as they are single bulb vs. MSP lip (very hard to find these days)ġ2. Mazda6 wagon rear wiper (I have this too and love it, looks better than stock and functions better too - can find the kit of everything you need at 8. MSP exhaust (will have to cut the piping from the muffler to tip off and have tip rewelded back on - I had an 03.5 on mine and loved it, great sound, only reason I sold it was I upgraded to a Thermal R&D catback)ĥ. MSP stock turbo (MSP used same 2.0 FSZE so it's a direct bolt-on)Ĥ. MP3 ECU (manual only and requires premium gas to get the benefit)ģ.
